TREATING THROUGH PREGNANCY
PREGNANCY.
The body goes through incredible changes during pregnancy. These include musculoskeletal and hormonal changes.
As your belly grows with bub, there is a shift in your center of gravity, this causes your pelvis to roll forward and lower back to arch. As you progress throughout pregnancy, your pelvis widens, and hips externally rotate to prepare for birth.
Up top, as baby grows, your rib cage expands & your shoulders roll forward causing you to flex through your upper back. This can place extra strain on your neck.
Additionally, there are hormones released (relaxin in particular) that soften ligaments to help with the birthing process but may also cause instability.
All these changes are beautifully crafted and essential for the growing and birthing of your baby (you really are amazing). Whilst many women report pains & discomfort throughout their pregnancy, this often doesn’t have to be the case. Osteopaths can support your body throughout this process by helping you maintain balance and mobility.
Some things that osteopathy can help with throughout pregnancy include:
Pelvic girdle pain (pubic symphysis and sacro-iliac pain)
Low back pain
Hip, knee and foot pain
Fluid retention & congestion
Upper back and neck pain
Rib pain
Reflux & migraines
Birth preparation
General support (e.g. energy levels, sleep, mobility)
